What is the Ozaukee County ATOD Prevention Consortium?

The Consortium is an umbrella organization started in 1983, coordinated by Starting Point , to oversee ATOD prevention and early intervention programs and activities in Ozaukee County. The Consortium also promotes and coordinates specific ATOD prevention strategies selected annually by the ATOD coordinators from each school district. Members consist of representatives from: Aurora Healthcare Businesses, Clergy, Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, Concordia University, Law Enforcement, LEAD, Ozaukee County Counseling Center, Ozaukee County Public Health Department, Parents Supporting Parents, Recovering Community, Schools, and the University of Wisconsin Extension.

Special Recognitions

  • National Award presented by the Office for Substance Abuse Prevention, US Department of Health & Human Services and the National Association of State Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Directors
  • Governor's Alliance For a Drug-Free Wisconsin Award presented to the Consortium as an exemplary grassroots coalition in the form of a roadside marker that appears along Port Washington Road in Ozaukee County
  • Exemplary Program Award presented by the Bureau of Alcohol and Other Drugs, Wisconsin State Department of Health and Social Services
  • Certificate of Commendation presented by the State of Wisconsin Constitutional Officers
  • JC Penny Golden Rule Award

History

  • The ATOD Prevention Consortium is a grassroots coalition whose primary purpose is to develop a comprehensive and unified response to the alcohol, tobacco, and other drug related issues within the community. A special emphasis is placed on the no-use message for youth.
  • The Consortium recognizes prevention as a long-term process that must continually respond to a changing community.
  • The Consortium develops and maintains a countywide comprehensive, ongoing community umbrella model using the coordinated systems approach.  
  • The Consortium contributes to the definition and support of consistent ATOD policies in each Ozaukee County community.  
  • The Consortium seeks to garner public support and encourage accountability at all levels of decision-making regarding ATOD budgeting and programming.  
  • Involvement in the Consortium has allowed school districts to apply for grant funds when community/school collaboration is a requirement.
  • The Ozaukee County ATOD Prevention Consortium was charged by the Ozaukee County Healthy Initiative and Ozaukee County Family Preservation and Support to address the priority issues of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use by youth and adults in Ozaukee County. Multiple surveys have continued to identify alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use as priority concerns by residents of Ozaukee County.
