The Aware Program

What is Aware?

Aware is a primary prevention program that targets gateway drug use by giving students skills to choose an ATOD-free lifestyle. The Aware Program is available to all public and private schools for students in grades 3-8. Demonstrations, interactive games, role play activities, movies and approved websites are used to increase student’s knowledge of specific drugs and improve resistance skills. Based on individual school needs, Aware is a flexible program, coordinated through school principals, teachers, and guidance counselors. Programs are offered 1 to 2 times a year to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and up to six times per year for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. All grades are on a track system, encouraging a gradual increase in knowledge and resistance skills over time.
